SYNTHETIC GRASS FAQ

Frequently-asked questions and answers about synthetic or artificial grass.

Is synthetic grass pet friendly?

Yes, we use special infill so that any odours are eliminated from pet urine.

The grass can withstand all types of abuse from pets. Our synthetic grass is pet-friendly and pet safe.

How much does artificial grass cost?

Synthetic grass is priced per square foot.

For outdoor synthetic grass, budget $10-$15 per square foot;
For indoor synthetic grass or athletic turf, budget $7-10 per square foot.

This price varies based on any challenges associated with the installation, and which synthetic grass product is selected for the installation.

For an average lawn, expect to spend between $4,000 and $8,000.

Beware of “budget” suppliers – to save costs, some installers use inferior products or rush the installation process. Either of these will result in a significantly shorter life for your artificial grass, and end up costing you more in the long run as a result!

How do I clean my synthetic grass?

Maintaining synthetic grass is easy!

Use a leaf blower or a leaf vacuum to clean synthetic grass in the Fall. If the leaf blower does not do the job, simply use a hose to wash off the grass.

Wine, chlorine and other backyard solutions will not stain the grass!

Is artificial grass toxic?

Check with your installer to ensure they meet Canadian safety standards.

Is artificial grass safe for children?

If you purchase your grass from a high-quality installer it is. Check with your manufacturer to ensure they use grass that is free of BPA and other toxins. In addition, you’ll want to ask your installer if they do lead testing on their grass.

Will synthetic grass fade?

Synthetic grass, when purchased from a high-quality manufacturer, doesn’t noticeably fade over time. When sunlight hits the grass, over time the color will slightly change. However, overall it stays vibrant and green. Artificial grass from Northwestern Synthetic Grass also comes with a warranty that will protect you should fading occur.

Synthetic or artificial grass does get warmer than normal grass, but it doesn’t hold heat. Think about it in like an artificial soccer or football field. If you need your artificial grass to cool off, just spray it with a hose and it will cool right down.
